Vintage Real Old Willow Teacup Set: 2pc English Transferware, Turtle Dove Design, blue and gold English cup

This is such a wonderful and classic 2 piece teacup and saucer, in the blue Real Old Willow pattern (A8025). These gorgeous Made in England set is incredibly pretty and all are stamped on the bottom with "Made in England Real Old Willow A8025". Both the cup and saucer are covered with a wonderful scene of gold, blue and white details, with the main turtle doves centerstage. The story behind the iconography is so interesting, and helps to explain some of the figures and images we see.

It's a story of two lovers... long ago, in the days when China was ruled by emperors, a Chinese mandarin, Tso Ling, lived in the magnificent pagoda under the branches of the apple tree on the right of the bridge, over which droops the famous willow tree, and in front of which is seen the graceful lines of the fence. Tso Ling was the father of a beautiful girl, Kwang-se, who was the promised bride of an old, but wealthy merchant. The girl, however, fell in love with Chang, her father's clerk. The lovers eloped across the sea to the cottage on the island. The mandarin pursued and caught the lovers and was about to have them killed when the gods transformed them into a pair of turtle doves. These are the doves seen gazing into each other's eyes at the top of the design on both pieces.

Both pieces of this Real Old Willow are fine examples of English transferware that is in perfect condition, with no chips or cracks and no wearing off of the gold. Securely packed and ready to ship in 1-2 days.

Some items will be wrapped with bubble wrap and shipped in a small box, in a box - it just depends on how to best pack it up safely.

No effort is spared to ensure your fabulous item arrives in one piece. I always use small or large bubble wrap and may even fashion a cardboard protector around the items. Everything is packed with either air bubble packets and/or heavy packing paper, to ensure that the items you order do not actually touch the sides of the box.
