Vintage Blue Willow Plates - Johnson Brothers Ironstone Set

This colorful and very beautiful set of 2 Willow pattern side plate set by Johnson Brothers have a lovely blue band on the rim area and wonderful decorative blue and white patterning in the center. There is a gorgeous decorative band around the rims and a lovely story is being depicted. These 2 stamped Johnson Brother Willow side plates are perfect for serving a wide variety of food items including bread, rolls, desserts or sandwiches, but they can be used for anything you want really. The story behind the iconography is just as interesting and helps to explain some of the figures and images.

It's a story of two lovers...Long ago, in the days when China was ruled by emperors, a Chinese manderin, Tso Ling, lived in the magnificent pagoda under the branches of the apple tree on the right of the bridge, over which droops the famous willow tree, and in front of which is seen the graceful lines of the fence. Tso Ling was the father of a beautiful girl, Kwang-se, who was the promised bride of an old, but wealthy merchant. The girl, however, fell in love with Chang, her father's clerk. The lovers eloped across the sea to the cottage on the island.

The mandarin pursued and caught the lovers and was about to have them killed when the gods transformed them into a pair of turtle doves. These are the doves seen gazing into each other's eyes at the top of the design on both pieces. Both of these 2 side plates are all in perfect condition, with no chips or cracks and can be securely packaged and aready to ship in 1-2 days.

Some items will be wrapped with bubble wrap and shipped in a small box, in a box - it just depends on how to best pack it up safely.

No effort is spared to ensure your fabulous item arrives in one piece. I always use small or large bubble wrap and may even fashion a cardboard protector around the items. Everything is packed with either air bubble packets and/or heavy packing paper, to ensure that the items you order do not actually touch the sides of the box.
